M.Sc. Biotechnology

Genetic engineering has revolutionized biotechnology in the past three decades. India has witnessed a rapid growth in the biotechnology sector with a prominent presence in Recombinant Vaccines, Biosimilars and Transgenic Cotton. With numerous comparative advantages in terms of research development (R & D) facilities, knowledge, skills and cost effectiveness, the biotechnology industry in India has immense potential to emerge as a global key player. In the recent past, there has been a considerable investment and input, in manpower development, in biotechnology R & D and in the Biotech industry.

The program provides hands- on training and practical skills in the field of Cell biology, Microbiology, Molecular genetics, Bioinformatics, Biochemical techniques, Enzymology, Plant tissue culture, Medical biotechnology, Genetic Engineering and Molecular biology, with aligning to current demand in the field of research & industry. By keeping the above in view, MITS has started M.Sc. Biotechnology in the year 2003 with affiliation from Utkal University.

Objectives of the Program

  • To provide students knowledge of DNA technology, industrial and bioprocess technology, protein engineering, bio-informatics, biochemistry, biopharmaceuticals and immunology
  • To provide students practical skills in specific diagnostic techniques and handling of sophisticated instruments
  • To equip students with skills in developing biotech products based on natural strains of micro organisms and tissue cultures and various recombinant techniques
